In the summer of 2019, I created my own 10 day meditation retreat. Each day I allocated 8 periods to meditation, where each period was 50 minutes each. The type of meditation I practiced was mindfulness meditation.

Because I had previous experience with meditating for a long period of time, I wasn't anxious about the time commitment required.

Although the practice is associated with becoming at peace with oneself, I felt that I also gained a skill that would be useful in my day-to-day life. The act of becoming mindful is a way to keep my emotions from spiralling out of control. It's a way to deal with my emotional problems so that I can face up to them, rather than avoid them or be consumed by them.

"To think in terms of either pessimism or optimism oversimplifies the truth. The problem is to see reality as it is.”
